7 things about me

here's a few titbits that might break the ice...and one bends the truth.

1. Where am I from

I'm orginally from Belfast, in the north of Ireland. I naturalised and became an Australian Citizen just after my son was born in Melbourne. I prefer vegemite than marmite, my favourite flight is the QF94, and I supported our Maltidas over the Irish recently.

2. Who do I 'barrack' for?

I had no idea what that meant and soon discovered this is a serious topic in Australian culture, everyone must support a footy team. It doesn't matter your age, race, sex, relegion etc., you must have a team. Melbourne Demons are my team, ask me about how the great Jim Stynes convinced me.

3. Favourite Book?

I do enjoy reading, so this is a difficult one, but the opening lines in 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' by Douglas Adams, with his irreverant deadpan synopsis of our planet, got me hooked on books.

4. The arts?

Not really, but I do play the Guitar and Piano. I'm not great, I never got one paid gig playing 'my' music, as a teenager at the end of the 80's I 'sold out' and played in a cabaret band at republican and loyalist clubs to save for a new amp. No Shame. Today when I relax it's often with my favourite taylor acoustic.

5. Volunteering/Community

If you want to develop leadership and communication skills, try coaching a senior Footy team. I've coached community soccer most of my life. Pictured is Ian Callaghan and I, together we played over 600 games for Liverpool Football Club. These days I run training sessions for a community clubs' veteran program and occasionally pull on the copa's.

6. Sport

I Play the occassional football vets game and I've always joked, 'when I'm to old to play sport I'll play golf'. I play golf now! (picture - FC Kopenbadly vs FC Farcelona, PanPacific Masters Games)

7. Hobbies

Outside of playing around with IT software, I'd say woodword. I've found working with wood is forgiving but, like developing software, you must use the right tool for the right job. I have made a few pieces for family and friends.
